Create your own circular innovation program.

An open-access guide to advance circular innovation programs across European cities and regions.

Cover Mockups of the three parts to the CIC Program Guide

For whom?

This guide was created for government officials and other stakeholders in European cities and regions that wish to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy and play a leading or supporting role in building a local innovation ecosystem in which circular ventures can thrive.

It is especially useful for cities with existing circular economy agendas and sectoral circularity targets, yet it can also be used to kick-start the development of circular ambitions within a city or a region.

What can I expect?

We have developed three parts, all highlighting different aspects of building a thriving innovation ecosystem within a value chain.

All parts are equally important, and require various stakeholders to bring your efforts to fruition. But don't worry, you're not alone - one of the Circular Innovation Collective's goals is to establish a support-system for users of our methodology.

Part 01 - How to Identify Innovation Gaps based on Circularity Targets

By evaluating value chains through a systemic lens, we first identify the key challenges on which innovative solutions should focus during the industry’s transition to circularity.
We aim to find, accelerate, and effectively scale high-value circular innovations that overcome, mitigate, or avoid these systemic barriers to circularity.

Part 02 - How to set up a Venture Support Program

By evaluating value chains through a systemic lens, we first identify the key challenges on which innovative solutions should focus during the industry’s transition to circularity.
We aim to find, accelerate, and effectively scale high-value circular innovations that overcome, mitigate, or avoid these systemic barriers to circularity.

Part 03 - How to secure Impact Finance for the Program and Early-stage Ventures

By evaluating value chains through a systemic lens, we first identify the key challenges on which innovative solutions should focus during the industry’s transition to circularity.
We aim to find, accelerate, and effectively scale high-value circular innovations that overcome, mitigate, or avoid these systemic barriers to circularity.

What can you expect?

The CIC program guide is a tried-and-tested approach to driving circularity ambitions for local governments - offering comprehensive instructions for scoping out, designing, and executing local circular innovation programs.

The Program Guide, detailing the approach, is formed by three reports, each covering a different part of the program.

Read on below for more information about the contents of the guide, or view the 2-pager for a detailed overview of what the guides entail.

Don't take our word for it

We are very happy with the launch of these guides, as they enable regions and cities to practically get started with assisting entrepreneurs and employers of the future. Here's to ‘repair’ jobs as the new normal!

Eva Helmond

Project Manager at Goldschmeding Foundation
To transition to a wellbeing economy we need to radically change our approach. We need to work with front runners and entrepreneurs that tackle societal challenges and influence the broader ecosystem. The CIC has been a very interesting project to do just that. With a deep dive into the textiles sector and its wicked problems.

Egon van Wees

Program Coordinator at Amsterdam Impact
We all work on grand societal transitions. But often, these transitions come with big hairy audacious goals and challenges. With the availability of the CIC guides, it becomes very low-key and easy for any city, municipality, or region, to start supporting pioneers and entrepreneurs, and work collaboratively towards a new impact economy. We invite everyone to stop ‘just’ believing, and start doing!

Coen Persijn

Program Manager at The DOEN Foundation
